It’s OK, there isn’t going to be a test. ACE workshops aren’t about filling your head up with theory. They’re about helping you

  • relax around maths
  • take joy in figuring things out
  • get past your fears
  • gain confidence
  • realise you know more maths than you think you do.

We recognise that not everyone has a good relationship with maths. It’s not evil, it’s just misunderstood — and we’re here to fix that.

Who we are

Alison Kiddle

Alison is a mathematician, educator and communicator based in the East of England. They graduated with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2002, and worked for several years as a maths teacher. At NRICH, they spent over a decade creating rich and innovative learning resources, while leading professional development workshops for teachers.

Alison’s focus is on helping learners to relax around maths by using crafts and games. Often students learn that they’re already doing complicated maths, even if they don’t realise it.

He obtained a B.Sc. in Mathematics with French (2000) and a Ph.D. in Mathematics (2003) from the University of St Andrews, before a few years of solar theory research at Montana State University. He started Flying Colours Maths, a tutoring and blogging business, in 2008; he has written multiple books in the For Dummies series as well as the pop-science titles Cracking Mathematics and The Maths Behind…. He’s also worked as a software developer, quantitative analyst and submarine wrangler.

Colin loves breaking complicated maths down into simpler, more intuitive pieces and helping people put them together in new and interesting ways.
